You use it to find out a persons gender,age,behaviour,instrests,you want to investigate the statistical data about the size and profile of the audience for a particular media product, you will need to find out if people are likely to use the product.
market research- researching the market so your not selling the same thing that already existents in the market you need to look at competition around you ,you will want to know if the product is profitable, you want to find out ;what the market looks like, who are the competition, what are competing products and from whom/where and potential costs,revenue,profit,etc
(movies)(music video ) looking at if the location is suitable production research- if audience and market research go well, a new product can be launched
production research will;
provide content and gather material to allow the company to develop the new product
investigate the commercial viability of actually making the product, investigate technology, personnel and other resources available, you will also need to find out suitable recording and or production locations, you will need to thoroughly research and plan production and post production stages to ensure that it all runs as smooth as possible
